With nothing to hold onto
this moment suddenly becomes
a lot freer.
We can’t make anything freeze
and remain in a changeless state,
yet somehow we desperately want
to believe that we can suppress the change
to preserve our level of comfort, of familiarity.
If everything stayed the same forever,
we could never watch a plant grow from a tiny seed,
we could never experience the change of seasons,
the cycles of night and day,
this fully awakened self in this fresh moment.
When we let go of the illusion of control,
we can move about our daily lives
ready for whatever arises in this moment.
Life can be messy…
instead of fighting
we can embrace the messiness,
and from this soft and tender
we set down the illusion of control,
empty hands outstretched,
ready to give
ready to receive.
