Ready for the Light

Standard

Following my body’s wisdom,
letting my mind rest,
breathing deeply,
I spent some time
playing outside
with my two kids,
running, growling,
chasing them,
delighting in their squeals.
The air was cool and fresh
and the towering trees
shone golden
in the light of the setting sun.
And then on the way
back to the car,
something caught my eye.
I looked down, and looked again,
and there in the gravel
was an impossibly large,
pear shaped crystal
with nary a scratch!
I took it as a sign
that the universe
is watching over me
and now it is sitting on my altar,
ready for the light
of the rising sun.

From Fear to Gratitude

Standard

Fear rises up, resistance,
to represent a voice that thinks
reality is flawed and should be changed.
And then spirit gives my sanity back to me.
It says Breathe.
I take a deep breath and I can feel my fullness,
my power, my connection with this moment.
The fear drops away, the resistance melts,
and my body sits up taller.
It says I am here and all is well.
All of life, all of it, is NOW.
All of my power, my joy, my abundance,
all is unfolding now, only now.
As I look back, the stories that threaten me
are the ones that begin with “What if?
I’m done playing that miserable game.
It’s time to wake up and since and dance
and rejoice and breathe and celebrate
and say THANK YOU, I’M ALIVE!

My Masterpiece Day

Standard

It was a masterpiece day…
A friend encouraged me to go to yoga,
and the teacher was so compassionate
my heart melted in her presence.
Then I nourished my body with a good lunch
and my mind with good conversation…
My friend and I strolled through the woods
right on the cusp of autumn;
already leaves are changing colors
and dropping to the ground.
We waded in a cool stream
and for a moment
I was completely free of
any worry, fear or doubt.
And I remembered,
THIS. This is who I really am.
Yes, it was a masterpiece day,
and I am grateful!

What More Can I Ask For?

Standard

The gratitude comes in waves,
and it’s for nothing in particular…
or should I say it’s for everything?
The morning light filtering through leaves
and the still cool, moist ground
carpeted in moss beneath my feet.
Beloveds I haven’t yet met
making merry all around me;
music, festivities, food and drink,
laughter, artistry, and a healthy dose
of debauchery…
Really, what more can I ask for
in a moment that gives me everything?

A Life Well-Lived

Standard

There are always reasons to be grateful;
search for them if they’re not obvious.
It will always be worth your effort
to search for reasons to be grateful
rather than dwelling on reasons to complain.
It may sound simple,
but sometimes the simplest truths
are the most challenging to apply in real life.
Dedicate your life to living this truth.
It will be a life well-lived.

Momentum

Standard

Once you get the ball rolling
it’s easier to keep it rolling
than it is to locate the ball
that once rolled into a dusty
corner and was eventually
forgotten.
Keep the momentum.
Anything counts.
Walking.
Brushing your teeth.
Sitting.
Breathing.
Chanting.
Laughing.
Dancing.
Singing.
Praying.
Playing.
Anything can count as a practice
if attended to every day
with a clear intention to awaken
as a result of your diligence.
Your momentum
builds strength and persistence.
Thank you for your willingness
to do the good work that
will help us all remember
who we really are.
