Do not lose heart, we were made for these times. —Clarissa Pinkola Estes
It might seem inconceivable to feel joy and gratitude
when so many others are grieving
but I promise you that your happiness
is a great medicine that this world yearns for.
Open your eyes, look around you,
let your heart open and be glad.
The events that cause so much suffering
give you an opportunity to know who you are,
what you stand for,
what is important to you,
what you are capable of,
what you must do.
Let the world’s sadness
awaken the soft spot in your heart
that you may feel compassion for all beings.
Breathe deeply, and let this breath of peace
stream out in all directions
blessing the world with your presence.
It might seem to you otherwise,
especially in moments of crippling doubt—
but you are a magnificent, talented,
powerful, unique, essential part of the whole.
Your job is to be yourself,
because we need your joy to know our own.
Don’t become lost in your grief;
this sadness is one drop in the infinite
ocean of consciousness.
But if you must, let yourself grieve
until you feel the sun on your skin again.
Let your grief open your heart
to the suffering of others.
You are stronger than you know.
You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world.
If you’re accustomed to struggling,
let’s try something new.
Work with me here.
Imagine the one thing
you really, really want to do
with this one precious human life of yours,
this huge goal, this amazing project
that would leave you feeling blessed
at its completion.
Then, ask yourself,
Does it have to be hard?
Do I have to struggle to get there?
Imagine opening yourself
to the flow of Universal Intelligence
and allowing yourself to blossom
and expand into your heart’s vision.
do the work of getting quiet and still,
going inwards, and immersing yourself
in the flow of the energy that created
all that is.
When you become accustomed
to the feeling of universal connectedness
and you develop the capacity
to stay connected
as you move through daily life,
the way is opened up before you.
It doesn’t have to be hard.
This expansion into greater states of being
is the most natural thing in the world
for you to do,
just as a flower turns its face to the sun
delighted to see clear skies
after having weathered the darkest storm,
and in that state of all encompassing light
easily, naturally, beautifully—
I’ll keep making the aspiration
that my thoughts, words and actions
be of benefit to all beings
and then I’ll watch where this path takes me.
With trust I’ll move forward,
eyes and heart wide open,
ready to live in the mystery.
I’m here, Life,
and I’m ready!
What does this life mean
if we don’t leave it happier
for having lived it?
And how can we leave life happier
than how we found it
if we aren’t living for those
with whom we share it?
Every day wake up grateful for waking up,
and be grateful for opportunities to be generous.
You are more powerful than you could ever know,
but knowing that you have this power to give
is a great start.
If you knew that living from
your most enlightened self
would bring indescribable joy
to yourself and those around you,
wouldn’t you choose to know that self
completely and to shine its light
out into this whole world?
Your light might be obscured
by your thinking sometimes
the way the sun is obscured behind clouds,
but make no mistake,
your light is always there.
Make it a point to know your light
and to live your life shining it
You are truly beautiful,
powerful, and wise beyond measure.
Let us see this most authentic self
and know the light and the joy of your being.
If we have a rigid view
about how things are supposed to be
how could we ever be delighted
by the way things actually are?
What sounds better–
mumbling, groaning, frowning,
complaining because it isn’t sunny
stepping out into the rain,
smiling, looking up to the sky,
opening your arms wide
If you don’t like what’s happening
find a way to reframe this moment
to bring your awareness back
to how truly blessed you are.
Look at where you came from,
going back thousands, millions of years.
Think about how many ancestors
had to survive
to make your life possible.
Feel awe contemplating
the utter improbability
of your birth–
out of all the beings
who could’ve been born
from your mother and father,
it was YOU who was given life.
What a gift it is just to be here.
Now go and dance in the rain!
Whenever I feel despair
hearing about the decisions
the policy makers
I try to remember
that this a call to action.
This is a self-defining moment,
an opportunity to proclaim
what really matters to me.
As I make my voice heard
those who hear me
might speak up and speak out
might get up and go out
might look in and find out
what is important to them.
We must live for each other
this is the only way
our precious mother
Think of the world
seven generations from now.
I want clean water for them.
I want majestic old trees
and oceans and forests
teeming with life
and a world where
the air is fresh
and the ideas are fresher
guiding us back to
so that all beings
may simply live.
I will not give in.
I will not accept
the status quo
where just a few profit
and even fewer are in the know.
We must educate, liberate,
from bonds placed on us long ago.
Stand up and tell us who you are.
There are more good people
out there who care
than those who could care less.
We need your voice.
We DO have a choice.
Understanding brings enthusiasm,
let me explain.
When you’re in the dark
you have no choice.
You’re in a trance,
at the mercy of circumstance.
But when you shine
the light of awareness,
of this amazing reality
awe at the absolute beauty
of this world.
And with awe, enthusiasm–
this energy to open, to connect
to express the best of who you are.
Look deep, my friends.
Look deep into the well of being,
shine the light of your awareness,
and let your understanding blossom.
