Give yourself permission to take care of yourself,
no one else will give it to you.
It may seem like a selfish act,
but it is only in caring deeply for yourself
that you can extend that same caring to others.
Let your cup be full, your body rested, your mind at ease.
Now you will be in a position
to offer the very best of yourself
to this world that longs to know you.
In one moment of clear vision
all of the stories
of fear and lack
are swept away from my eyes.
Reality glows more brightly.
I breathe in deeply.
In the breeze of this moment,
I exhale slowly,
letting go of the past,
creating more space,
receiving this life, now,
in this one moment.
I let go of everything
and the universe begins to laugh,
singing a song of freedom.
I jump into the dance of this moment
and the beloveds join me
near and far,
in the forests, on the mountains,
in the ocean, across the deserts,
looking up and searching in the stars,
diving deeper into the One Self,
circling around a great fire,
delighting in the gift
of this one and only
precious, everlasting moment.
Why wait for something
extraordinary to happen
to be fulfilled?
Take a deep breath.
Can you feel it?
Why wait for the world
to come to its senses
to experience peace?
Can you feel it?
Why wait for happiness,
a sense of belonging,
Just sit still and breathe.
Everything you long for
is right within you.
You are the keeper of great treasures,
wealthy beyond measure.
Don’t sit there alone, brooding, waiting,
when you can come to know
the utter beauty of love’s true joy.
Walk to the door, fling it open, step outside.
Beckon the world to come see your treasure,
dazzling with the hope and the promise
of good days to come.
Don’t wait. Share it with us now.
Dear ALL THAT IS,
THANK YOU SO MUCH
for all of the blessings
that are continuously pouring
into my life, and
for giving me
the EYES to SEE them
the EARS to HEAR them
the TONGUE to TASTE them
the NOSE to SMELL them
the HANDS to TOUCH them
the VOICE to SPEAK them
the BRAIN to UNDERSTAND them
the HEART to LOVE them
and the LIFE to LIVE them!
And now it’s time to give.
(And it’s always time to give.)
What? you say, Give? Me?
I am going through a tough time
and I don’t have so much at the moment.
There’s nothing really I can spare.
I don’t have much. I’m sorry.
If you truly believe you have nothing to give
then you are very poor indeed.
And if you know
that it is a privilege to give whatever you can,
then you take your place
among the wealthiest in the world.
It is not about the material wealth,
bequeathing huge sums
for buildings that will bear your illustrious name.
No, giving can happen in secret…
in fact, that might be the best kind of giving of all.
Don’t believe me?
You don’t have to take my word for it.
Go do something nice for someone without
expecting anything in return,
and do it without their knowledge.
Pay close attention to how you feel
after such an act.
You’ll be privy to one of the greatest,
most obvious, and most overlooked
secrets passed down through all generations
Giving is living.
Stay with your experience
whatever it is.
Don’t run away–
it has something to teach you.
the most valuable gift
is concealed in the strangest packaging.
Just trust in this moment.
Stay with this experience.
Unwrap each thought and feeling
open each perception, each word
see the treasures that are yours
when you learn to stay,
just stay with your experience.
Meditation is about a compassionate openness and the ability to be with oneself and one’s situation through all kinds of experiences. In meditation you’re open to whatever life presents you with. It’s about opening the heart and mind to the difficulties and the joys of life–just as it is. And the fruits of this kind of meditation are boundless.
—Pema Chodron, How to Meditate, pp 5-6
When we can finally free ourselves
of the limiting belief
that the goal of life is to escape pain
and maximize pleasure
then we can meet our pain
without the judgement that we have failed
and we can enjoy our pleasure
without the fear that it will be taken from us…
Because we know that life is changing
all the time
we hold on to nothing
but with open hands
we receive this moment
just as it is.
This vulnerability is true power.
This curiosity is true freedom.
This letting go is true abundance.
