All of a sudden,
as if someone had lit a fire
I felt motivated to get some stuff done.
Things that I had been wanting to do
got done in a matter of minutes.
And so I wonder about procrastination.
I wonder about the time I spent
judging myself for not getting things done.
I wonder what I could’ve done with that time,
if it were used in service of something greater
May I develop the discipline to notice
when I’m caught in that old trap
and just get the freaking stuff done already!
If you knew that what you wanted
was within reach
right outside your comfort zone
would you go for it?
If you knew it would take
some effort on your part
would you go ahead
and muster the strength?
If you knew you could do it
but you would need to choose it,
and choose it with every fiber
of your beautiful being,
would you make the choice?
–Says the Universe to us,
every single day, as it
puts what we want
just outside our comfort zone.
I keep expecting more from myself;
it seems I am not evolved enough.
Then I end up feeling disappointed.
What if there were another way?
What if I could look at myself
and apply the balm of compassion?
What if I could accept my shortcomings
and invite myself to make small shifts
according to what is realistic
in this day to day adventure of life?
What sounds better—
And what will lead to a better outcome
for myself, my family, my community,
Which choice will empower me
to look upon others with love,
understanding, patience, compassion?
It seems obvious now, doesn’t it?
If you’re not deliberately staying open,
you are probably shutting down.
Sure, you might feel safer
hiding your light from the world,
but did you come here to live
in the darkness of your comfort bubble?
Just beyond the edges of that bubble,
your amazing potential awaits,
potential only you can fulfill.
Start by being open to the possibility
that you could stay open
and move on from there.
Take deep breaths.
If you’re feeling uncomfortable
you’ve reached the edge of your comfort zone
and now real growth can take place.
Take a stand for your open mind,
your open heart, your boundless spirit.
Live from your deepest truth,
express the soul fire that burns within you,
and as the changes come,
I will not hide.
This light shines for all to see.
I will not try to live within
the box you built for me;
it cannot contain me.
Everyday I am growing;
I am sorry you cannot keep up.
But don’t worry,
this light will still be shining
by the time
you are no longer afraid
to open your eyes
and really see.
Choosing the most empowered response
to any given situation–
this is freedom,
this is self-knowing,
this is clarity.
What are you capable of doing,
and what are you doing right now?
Is there a gap between the two,
and how can you close the gap?
When you live from your highest self,
you are happy, fulfilled,
excited to be alive.
Are you living from your highest self?
If today were your last,
have you accomplished all
that you set out to do?
Ask yourself these questions,
and answer them honestly.
Do your best to choose
your most empowered response.
Once my mom said to me
You’re not a cookie.
You’re not going to come
out of the oven all done.
We had been talking about life,
and how impatient I was to
get there, wherever “there” was.
I read tonight about a spiritual teacher
who shocked the audience saying
You will never get it all together.
I guess that this teacher also realized
that we aren’t cookies.
