Just This Once

Standard

I discover that
when I breathe more
I enjoy life more.
I relax,
my body feels good,
I have energy.
I’ve been working on
establishing a deep, slow,
steady breath
for years now and
I know that it feels good
when I breathe consciously.
So the work becomes
remembering to breathe
during the day.
Thank you, oh mind,
for giving me the gift
of conscious breathing
in this moment.
Thank you for waking up from the trance
long enough to remember
to breathe just this once.

Healing from the Inside

Standard

Healing isn’t something we do,
it’s something that we allow,
once we have dissolved the blocks
to its natural unfolding.
And the blocks are always inside us.
What stories are you telling?
What beliefs have you cherished for so long?
What identity have you been feeding
at the expense of your deepest, truest self?
When we decide to heal, we will,
and it doesn’t matter what needs to be healed.
Cultivate self-love, an appreciation of your soul,
stoke the fire within you that gives rise
to your vibrant, beautiful expression in the world.
All this and more becomes your way of life
when you choose to heal from the inside.

Did You Know?

Standard

The magic is here.
Open your eyes.
Can you see it?
Heavenly fragrance everywhere.
Inhale deeply.
Can you smell it?
The music is being played.
Listen.
Can you hear it?
The rhythm is flowing.
Let your body move.
Can you feel it?
The sweet water cascades upon you.
Open your mouth.
Can you taste it?
You are alive.
Did you know it?

Healing

Standard

Healing.
Trusting that the wisdom
deep within you
can rise up and show you
what you need.
Closing your eyes
to the world outside
and diving deeper within.
Finding the source
of well-being.
Breathing deeply
and drawing from that source.
Opening your eyes
and returning to the world,
engaging from a healthy place,
a stable place, a wise place,
looking out into the world
with the eyes of compassion,
eyes that have seen
pain and healing
as two sides of the same coin.

An Undoing

Standard

Make success easy.
You might not be able to meditate for thirty minutes,
but you could sit for five.
You might not have one whole hour to exercise,
but what about a quarter of an hour? Or a few minutes?
It’s easy to avoid the one thing
that will help you the most.
Go inside yourself and ask to see clearly
the blocks you’ve created to avoid your own happiness.
If you’re serious about being happy,
you will bravely seek out the places
shut off from your truest self-expression,
and you will do whatever you have to
in order to melt away the resistance to your joy.
Sometimes this path is not such much a doing,
but an undoing.

NaPoWriMo 2017 Day 27: Jun Tea

Standard

An infusion of rose buds
cooled to the perfect temperature
for brewing green tea,
then straining and waiting
for the tea to cool to room temperature.
Now mix with a cup of honey,
a cup of starter tea,
and pour into a gallon jar.
Add a robust scoby,
now wait and wait,
and watch the miracles
of fermentation,
the miracle of symbiosis.
A week or two or three weeks later,
pour your tea into smaller bottles
and add a little juice or fruit.
Now wait.
Wait a little more.
Wait a few days, a  week or more.
Wait for the fizz,
the refreshing vivifying bubbles.
Cool in the fridge,
pour into a glass,
and prepare for a taste sensation.
Jun tea, an elixir of health!
