Remember the Inner Light

Standard

Tired and low again today.
My fear is that this state
becomes my normal state,
that I cease to have hope,
that my resolve to change
crashes and burns.
I remember suddenly
that the solstice is in one week.
These are the darkest days of the year.
May I remember the inner light
as the world grows darker
and the nights longer.

Shining For You

Standard

What begins as a sad, sober moment
ends as a hearty celebration,
and the things we thought we lost
have just taken another form.
Why grieve, then?
If nothing is lost
why are we searching?
Each question is a little twinkling star
in the grandest night sky of silent knowing.
Keep asking
and maybe you will see
all the lights are shining
for you.

Keep Digging

Standard

I discovered
that I can let Life surprise me.
When I realize I’m the Fool,
my mind is open to new learning.
When my heart is broken
I have a chance to see the light
shining from the million tiny pieces,
more beautiful than all the stars
in the darkest night sky.
Sometimes the deepest pain
holds an even deeper treasure.
May I trust
and keep digging.

Afternoon Reflection

Standard

The afternoon light sparkles
on gently waving leaves.
My body wants rest; I listen.
I take a moment,
one little pause to reflect.
Who thinks these thoughts?
Who writes these words?
Who causes the leaves to dance
and the wind to blow through them?
It can be spacious, this moment,
this life.
The light keeps sparkling
and something within me
recognizes it.
All at once I realize,
I’m here. I made it.

The Only Answer is Light

Standard

Equinox
equal night
a balance of the dark and light
the tipping point
for turning inwards
rooting down
and letting go.
I practice releasing
as willingly as the trees
let fly their leaves
to make way
for the long winter.
I ask for a revelation from spirit:
Who am I really?
What do I want?
What do I need?
I look at nature
and I look again,
taking her cue to heart.
I discover
that after so much darkness
the only answer is light.

Ready for the Light

Standard

Following my body’s wisdom,
letting my mind rest,
breathing deeply,
I spent some time
playing outside
with my two kids,
running, growling,
chasing them,
delighting in their squeals.
The air was cool and fresh
and the towering trees
shone golden
in the light of the setting sun.
And then on the way
back to the car,
something caught my eye.
I looked down, and looked again,
and there in the gravel
was an impossibly large,
pear shaped crystal
with nary a scratch!
I took it as a sign
that the universe
is watching over me
and now it is sitting on my altar,
ready for the light
of the rising sun.

From Fear to Gratitude

Standard

Fear rises up, resistance,
to represent a voice that thinks
reality is flawed and should be changed.
And then spirit gives my sanity back to me.
It says Breathe.
I take a deep breath and I can feel my fullness,
my power, my connection with this moment.
The fear drops away, the resistance melts,
and my body sits up taller.
It says I am here and all is well.
All of life, all of it, is NOW.
All of my power, my joy, my abundance,
all is unfolding now, only now.
As I look back, the stories that threaten me
are the ones that begin with “What if?
I’m done playing that miserable game.
It’s time to wake up and since and dance
and rejoice and breathe and celebrate
and say THANK YOU, I’M ALIVE!
