The Eyes of Your Soul

Standard

Keep the faith.
Trust.
Don’t lose hope.
Your rational mind
cannot conceive of  the true
length, width, depth and breadth of you
so don’t go there
looking for answers
about who you really are.
Go deeper.
Look for the light
shining within you,
there, in the deepest,
most sacred chamber of your Self.
When you turn in
to look at your own light
the mirrors of your soul’s eyes
magnify the light within you,
until it overflows
and radiates out
to everyone around you.
Do you want to see the world
with clear, bright, shining eyes?
Then close the eyes of your body
and open the eyes of your soul.

PS: Take a deep breath.  All is well.

Has the Whole World Changed?

Standard

Life is so magical
when lived with an open heart.
My inner saboteur
successfully talked me out of it
until now.
Now, this moment,
is a lot fresher, clearer,
more vibrant.
Things seem lighter and funnier.
People seem friendlier.
Has the whole world changed,
or have I?

Light and Joy

Standard

What does this life mean
if we don’t leave it happier
for having lived it?
And how can we leave life happier
than how we found it
if we aren’t living for those
with whom we share it?
Every day wake up grateful for waking up,
and be grateful for opportunities to be generous.
You are more powerful than you could ever know,
but knowing that you have this power to give
is a great start.
If you knew that living from
your most enlightened self
would bring indescribable joy
to yourself and those around you,
wouldn’t you choose to know that self
completely and to shine its light
out into this whole world?
Your light might be obscured
by your thinking sometimes
the way the sun is obscured behind clouds,
but make no mistake,
your light is always there.
Make it a point to know your light
and to live your life shining it
everywhere.
You are truly beautiful,
powerful, and wise beyond measure.
Let us see this most authentic self
and know the light and the joy of your being.

Know Your True Self

Standard

We go inwards
to find the light
that we are meant
to shine out
into the world.
The work of
inner illumination
lifts the limits
we put on our
outward expression.
As our light glows and grows,
we see more,
and so do those
with whom we share this planet,
this life.
The best way
to show your gratitude
for the gifts and talents
you’ve been given
is to use them.
Let the whole world
see who you really are.
Shine your light
into the whole universe.
Know your true self–
boundless, light, and free.

It Begins

Standard

Fall arrives on a whisper of wind
Suddenly, it is dark again
earlier in the evening
and later in the morning
and I have that wistful feeling
reminding me I’ll be letting go
of light and warmth…again.
The in-turning begins.
In truth, though,
it began at the turn of the solstice,
but summer is too bright to notice
how the light recedes ever so subtly,
until, until it is gone from me
and all I have is the memory
of sunlight and bright days and bare feet.
I made a commitment
to reframe my vision–
to no longer call it adversity,
now it is opportunity.
Now is the time to reach deeper still
and remember what lies within.
To embrace the in-turning
and the treasures that await
while my watching eyes fixate
on the breezy summer skies.
This letting go is good for me.
This going inwards is an opportunity.
I won’t fight the fading of the light,
not this time…
I’m ready now.
Come on darkness.
Bring it on.

The Light the World Needs

Standard

I keep writing these poems
because it has become a habit
to write one poem every day.
It has become part of my practice
to concentrate my thoughts,
to choose a few words,
to express a sliver of what is alive in me.
Sometimes a sliver is all that is needed
to let in the light the world needs.

Solstice

Standard

The solstice approaches
And I, basking in my hemisphere of light,
think to those who will soon live their darkest night.
In a few days, the longest of the year here in the north,
my half of the earth
will start its tilting course away from the sun
and one by one
the days will grow shorter again.
And thus, when we’ve reached the zenith of the light,
the descent into darkness begins,
while others pull themselves up and out of the blackest night.
The perfect earthly balance continues,
and if we humans could mimic this cosmic orchestry,
we’d finally get something right.
