The Message Becomes Clear

Standard

The sadness consumes me
and it feels so familiar to be caught like this,
to be caught by anger, by resentment,
by anxiety, by fear, by doubt…
It occurs to me that it doesn’t take
much courage to feel what I’m feeling,
but it does take courage to recognize
what the feelings are here to teach me.
What can I learn from the sadness,
from these shadow emotions
whose presence bring balance
to the more desirable states of
joy, calm, love, confidence?
There is a deeper courage called for here:
to trust that if they’ve shown up,
they have something, some message to convey,
and to be patient and wait
while the message becomes clear.

Rollercoaster

Standard

The rollercoaster of emotions…
One moment
fury, rage,
the next,
sadness, grief
I try to find ground
and discover that nothing is solid.
The world trembles and opens up
beneath my feet.
I fall and keep falling.
Even my dreams speak
of disaster, of dissolution, of death.
And what am I grieving?
It certainly wasn’t love
if it dissipates into a thin veil
and then disappears
as if it were never there.
Am I mourning what I’ve lost
or my projection
of what could have been?

Love and Bruises

Standard

This tender heart
has been through enough
But Life says,
Nah. Get back in there.
You still have some time
left in the ring.
Since when did love become
a dance of two fighters
dodging one another’s blows,
finding a delicate balance,
waiting to see who will be knocked down
and who will be victorious–
both covered in bruises?

Love & Fear

Standard

The more I try to get unstuck
the more stuck I am.
If I can relax, look around
and accept the fact that I’m stuck
then I can better find the way out
of whatever rut I’ve fallen into.
First, I look at my thoughts.
Is the story I’m telling
helping me to be happy?
If not, it’s time to rethink
my vision of this moment.
When I allow them to be,
everyone around me
is the love of my life.
When my heart is shut down
and I believe my fear thoughts,
even the most innocent souls
become my enemies.
How can it be that I have this much love
and this much fear in me
all at once?

Your Tender Heart

Standard

What are you searching for?
What are you hoping to find?
What do you think will make you happy?
Stop.
Just stop, close your eyes, sit still.
Take a deep breath.
Everything you always wanted
is where it has always been,
where it always will be–
right here within you,
inside the most sacred
chamber of your achingly
beautiful, tender heart.

You Are the Miracle

Standard

Don’t shrink, expand.
Now more than ever
this world needs
human beings to awaken
and allow their deepest essence
to pour forth,
helping the world,
healing the world,
inspiring the world,
celebrating the world,
this world where there
is so much beauty
concealed by so much suffering.
Step out of the suffering
and look up at the sky.
Walk into the forest,
listen to the water in the stream.
Sit atop the mountain peak,
let the sun and the wind
touch your face.
Go into the city,
love every single person you see.
The pendulum swings
again and again,
never stopping.
Beyond the extremes
of the pendulum’s swing
there is oneness,
forever, only oneness–
and this is the truth
of who you are.
Let the great one in you
breathe, speak,
think, create and act
from this oneness.
You are the miracle
we’ve been waiting for.

Dear ALL THAT IS

Standard

Dear ALL THAT IS,
THANK YOU SO MUCH
for all of the blessings
that are continuously pouring
into my life, and
THANK YOU
for giving me
the EYES to SEE them
the EARS to HEAR them
the TONGUE to TASTE them
the NOSE to SMELL them
the HANDS to TOUCH them
the VOICE to SPEAK them
the BRAIN to UNDERSTAND them
the HEART to LOVE them
and the LIFE to LIVE them!
