Make Me Stronger

Standard

I never thought it would be like this.
That’s because life doesn’t stop
to check in with my little ideas
about how things should be.
It just goes on being what it is,
this life,
regardless of my thoughts.
If I want to be happy,
I need to be aware of my thinking,
and ask some questions
when my thoughts create shadows
in place of the light.
May I have the strength to see the truth
when my thoughts have blinded me.
May I have the patience to endure
the challenges life has in store for me,
and may these challenges
make me stronger.

May I Choose Wisely

Standard

The depression and the despair
creep up and try to settle in;
I know them well
and I know where this is going.
It occurs to me to not go there,
not this time.
This time, I tell myself,
I’ll remember that I can choose.
I am not the screen,
nor the images projected upon it,
neither am I the projector–
I am the one who stands behind it,
watching the movie being played.
I am the one who chooses the reels.
I can choose a beautiful story,
a joyful, delightful, healing story.
Meditation gives me this choice.
Let me remember who I really am.
I am not this sad story
of grief and loss, not this time.
This time I am strength,
resilience, freedom, forgiveness.
I am creativity, inspiration,
sensuousness, sacredness.
May I remember my power.
May I choose wisely.

Your Awakened Consciousness

Standard

Catch yourself right in the middle of the thought
that there is something wrong with this moment.
Catch yourself, because the thought is so quick
it might slip through unnoticed.
Your job is to notice everything.
Sit still, close your eyes, go within, be quiet.
When you calm your senses even a little
you’ll hear the voice that is always spinning
the tall tales inside your head.
Notice the spinner and the tales,
and realizeĀ that you are neitherā€”
You are the great witnessing presence
that notices as it all unfolds.
When you can step behind the thoughts
and watch the interweaving of your awareness
with the physical reality around you,
you’ll stand in awe of the whole thing.
Thoughts about anything being wrong with this moment
dissipate in the intensely beautiful light
of your awakened consciousness.

Nothing But Here

Standard

Throughout the day
I’d catch myself in thought–
shock, disbelief, anxiety
for the future.
Then I’d wake myself up,
realize I was here in my home,
safe and warm.
I ate a lunch of grilled cheese
and tomato soup,
I sewed a flannel nightgown for my mom,
fabric printed with
I love Grandma
repeated hundreds of times.
I’d be there sewing
happily along
and the thoughts would come,
and again the shock, the disbelief,
and the anxiety…
and again I’d wake myself up
to reality…
Just here now,
no problem
to be solved,
no worry,
no fear.
When all is said and done,
it’s better right here.
When all is said and done,
there is nothing but here.

I Choose Reality

Standard

When I argue with reality I lose,
but only 100% of the time.
When I believe my stressful thoughts,
I suffer,
and when I question my stressful thoughts,
I don’t suffer.
I have believed my stories for so long.
Now I choose to see the truth,
truth that is alive deep within me,
truth that has been concealed
under my insane beliefs and expectations.
Who would I be without the thought
that this moment should be other than what it is?
I would be me,
living this moment peacefully,
with enough clarity in my mind
to celebrate the gifts of life.
I choose reality.
I choose clarity.
I choose peace.

Our Thinking Makes It So

Standard

There is no problem
but our thinking makes it so.
There are no new stressful thoughts;
they have been the same
since the very beginning of time.
Yes, the details and the context have changed,
but the feelings really have not.
Anger is anger and fear is fear.
Sadness is sadness and joy is joy.
Whatever stress we experience
has been experienced many times over…
we are not so different from our ancestors,
even with our cell phones,
Instagram, FaceBook and YouTube.
This is good news!
It means that we don’t have to take
any of these human difficulties personally.
And, everything is personal,
because everything is a projection
of our own minds.
Clean up your mind,
and your projection becomes pure.
Find joy within
and you will see joy outside as well.
Settle into this moment,
see beyond the stories.
Reality is beautiful.
Our thinking makes it so.

60,000 Thoughts

Standard

Our most amazing superpower
is putting our attention
where we want it
when we want it.
Consider–
scientists estimate
that we think 60,000 thoughts
every day,
95% of them are recycled
and 80% of those are negative…
which means we think
45,000 negative thoughts
every day.
What if we could reclaim
our thinking
and direct it for a higher purpose?
What we would do?
Who would we become?
Let us cultivate our greatest superpower.
Let us learn how to focus our attention
where we want it
when we want it.
Let us awaken our greatest potential
for the benefit of all beings.
